About

About Me
Hi I’m Hiwote Bekele, a public health professional, wellness educator, and lactation education and support specialist. I am a wife and a mother of three children. My work sits at the intersection of maternal health, nutrition, environmental wellness, and motherhood. I support women, especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding, through evidence‑based education, practical tools, and compassionate lactation support.
During my first pregnancy and postpartum, I wanted to do things as naturally as possible. But I was met with resistance. Whenever I faced a challenge, whether it was breastfeeding, cloth diapering, or simply trusting my body, I was surrounded by doubt, pressure, and messages that there was only one “right” way to mother. What I needed wasn’t more noise. I needed grounded guidance, balance, and permission to honor both science and instinct. That season changed me. Now, I help other mothers navigate pregnancy, breastfeeding, and early motherhood with clarity, confidence, and compassionate, evidence‑based support. That’s how Yehiwote Mizan was born.
What Does “YehiwoteMizan” Mean?
Yehiwote comes from my name, Hiwote, meaning mylife. Mizan is my firstborn’s name, meaning balance. Together, Yehiwote Mizan means “my balanced life.” I created it after becoming a first‑time mom, during my own challenges with breastfeeding, health, and the overwhelming pressure to “do everything right.” It became the resource I didn’t have, but deeply needed.
My Approach
⇨ My approach is holistic, culturally grounded, and realistic. I believe health education should:
⇨ Be rooted in science
⇨ Respect lived experience and culture
⇨ Offer small, practical steps that fit real life
Whether I’m working one‑on‑one, teaching workshops, or creating educational content, my goal is simple: to help mothers feel informed, confident, and supported.
My Mission
Through Yehiwote Mizan, I help women and families:
⇨ Breastfeed with confidence
⇨ Nourish their bodies and babies
⇨ Reduce everyday toxic exposures
⇨ Make informed choices for long‑term health
At the heart of my work is this belief: When mothers are supported, families and communities thrive!
